ABOUT

Boasting a warm tone and a commanding presence, Greek-American soprano, Vethania A Stavropoulos, strives to bring an authenticity that highlights the human experience with every performance.

Her latest performance was with Kyrenia Opera in their concert, Christmas with Kyrenia Opera, this past holiday season. In October 2023, she joined Kyrenia Opera’s ensemble for The Art of Being a Hellene. The program displayed a mix of operatic selections amongst Greek popular musical classics, all of which reflected the essence of Greek heroism for a modern audience. Ms. Stavropoulos’s most recent role found her owning her playfulness to convey a meddlesome and feisty Ms. Pinkerton in Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief.

This past April, she performed a program alongside the legendary George Dalaras with Kyrenia Opera for the Annual Greek Independence Day Gala, which spoke ardently to the heart of Greek patriotism through the compositions of Mikis Theodorakis. Her repertoire does not shy away from contemporary works as she presented a fiercely loyal and strong willed Christine Meyer, with a rich tone to match, in the world premier of President Joan. A frequent performer of Romantic era music, Ms. Stavropoulos enthusiastically delves into repertoire by the likes of Franz Schubert, Giacomo Puccini, and Claude Debussy. She also honors her Greek heritage by performing art songs by composers such as Giannis Konstantinides.

Ms. Stavropoulos earned her Master of Music in Classical Vocal Performance from New York University in 2020. She holds Bachelor of Arts in Music and French from Kalamazoo College (2017), where she was the recipient of the Lillian Pringle Baldauf Prize in Music. She studied abroad in Clermont-Ferrand, France, played lacrosse at the Division III level, and is proficient in both French and Greek.

Vethania currently lives in New York, has taken up mixed martial arts, and can be found with a bucket of popcorn or olives in her lap.
